Grandfather’s Journey: a nonet poem

A 20th Century Departure from Ukraine

“Grandfather’s Journey” is a poem based on the true story of my Grandfather Jacob who was the last surviving member of his family in Europe. When the iron curtain rose, he went on foot across country to leave Ukraine and find his way to America. He spoke no English and did not have much of an education, but he wanted freedom. In New York City, he met my Grandmother and our family was reborn here in the United States.
