No Wasted Ink Newsletter & Ramblecast - December 2024
a newsletter and voiceover podcast by Poet Laureate Emerita Wendy Van Camp
Welcome to the monthly No Wasted Ink Newsletter. My name is Wendy Van Camp and I’m Poet Laureate Emerita for the City of Anaheim, California. This newsletter is not affiliated with the city. All views stated here are my own.
RAMBLE
As the year winds down to a close, I find that snuggling into a blanket on a cold morning with a hot cup of coffee is all my heart desires. My office companion, a golden orange tabby, takes her place beside me. A warm ball of fur and purrs. While I had appearances and worked a few book tables during the first two weeks of December, I have left the second half of the month for quiet contemplation and decompression.
One of those tables was a Poetry Festival in San Diego. It was by invite only, so while I was not asked to speak, the San Diego Poetry Annual invited me to share table space. I welcomed the opportunity to meet the poets of San Diego. I’ve been a working artist in this area for almost 30 years, but I am not well known on the poetry scene. The Festival was more of a send-off party for the outgoing county poet laureate Jason Perez. The keynote speaker was California State Poet Laureate Lee Harrick. I had the pleasure of meeting Lee and chatting with him in the hallway between poetry performances and found him not only to be a wonderful poet, but a down to earth, warm, and considerate gentleman.
I wish you a Happy Christmas and New Year. Remember to spend time with those you love whatever holiday you practice at this time. Most importantly, keep on writing your stories, essays, and poetry.

Wendy
